"A Premature Baby May Look Tiny and Fragile To Touch, But Don't Underestimate The Courage, Strength And Determination Of A Baby Born Too Soon, And The Spirit of a Preemie Mom too"
Not many know about this, but my "perfectly normal" pregnancy turned out to be a nightmare when I was diagnosed with IUGR ( Intrauterine growth restriction ), during my 2nd pregnancy-- something I had never heard of before.
My first pregnancy had been a completely normal and healthy one and so I had no doubts about my 2nd one too. I was eating healthy, resting, taking care of my body and doing everything in my power to have a healthy pregnancy but still, my womb became a hostile environment for my baby and he wasn't growing the way he should have. The worst was, I couldn't do anything about it and that made me extremely heartbroken. ⠀
For obvious reasons, I had a premature delivery at 36 weeks. He was kept in NICU for 3 weeks and then finally brought home.
My little baby is a fighter boy and didn't give up even during his worst phases. I'm eternally grateful for the amazing team of docs I had! Today at 6+ months, Little S is a strong and healthy baby and very active and smart.
IUGR is something which is not spoken about and I hope that with my story I can reach out to parents and families who are sailing in the same boat and be a support system for them.
