Bedtime Routine For Toddlers

A healthy bed time equals a happy and a healthy child..

💖A good bedtime routine can do wonders in terms of the toddler's behavioural aspect. Organized and healthy baby sleep patterns can be difficult to implement at an early age. However, making and following a proper nap and bedtime schedule can improve a baby's way of living.  Infants do not understand the difference between day and night. A simple bedtime routine will allow your baby to understand the difference between the two.  Sound sleep makes the baby wake up fresh, energetic and full of life. Babies who sleep at odd times may leave them feeling fussy, cranky and irritated.

🏠Toddlers like familiarity and a routine and as parents, it’s our responsibility to ensure our baby follows a fixed sleeping routine. Even when you are traveling around the clock, try sticking to the fixed bed time regime as it helps the baby become stress free from all the travelling and it helps in making them more comfortable with unfamiliar surroundings.

👶🏻We are all well known with the toddler tantrums when their bedtime goes for a toss! They then tend to not have control over their emotions and get hyper or cranky which is no fun! Kids that are well slept, wakes up fresh and happy and do not have any behavioral problems in future. Although sleeping looks like a perfectly natural phenomenon, but trust me, it’s not a very pleasing job to get the toddlers to follow a routine and ensure that the kids get enough sleep. But once the threshold is passed, your baby will automatically start following the order.

➡So, what is the bedtime regime one can follow: -

There is no scientifically proven the best way of a bedtime regime that one needs to follow. But one needs to make a proper bedtime routine suitable for your little ones, and make sure to abide by it every single day, till it doesn't become a habit.

.

.

✨Here are a few tips I follow for my toddler's sleep time regime:-

😴❤1) BATH BEFORE BED- If the child is comfortable then a nice warm bath calms them down. However, if the toddler is like mine who doesn’t enjoy a bath before bedtime then do not push him, make sure to wash his hands and feet and changing into fresh jammies before going to bed.

😴❤2) BRUSHING TEETH– It is a good practice to get the kid to brush their teeth before going to sleep. Lil P and I brush our teeth together every day so that he gets in the habit of it. Let’s admit not every day I am successful in getting his teeth brushed but then yes, we are slowly getting there.

😴❤3) BEDTIME STORY OR SING A LULLABY- Lil P loves either reading a book or listening to lullabies that I sing for him. He calls them “nini song”. So, reading books or singing lullabies also prepare the child to unwind and relax, making them stress free while learning and developing their vocabulary.

😴❤4) Since I am potty training my lil one, I also ask him to go to the bathroom before he dozes off.

😴❤5) I ensure I don’t give any screen time few hours prior the bedtime, as the screen time messes up with the brain tremendously and hinders a good night sleep.

The above picture is from a recent holiday in Switzerland. It was Lil P's nap time, and I always make sure his sleep routine is not disturbed even when we are travelling around the clock.

I make him sleep in his bed with his favorite blankie and kiss him good night for him to let him drift in his la la land. 😘

Sure, there are weekends or when you are traveling when it’s difficult to stick to a very strict schedule. In those circumstances, a slight leeway is alright, but we must not forget our priorities and not compromise our little one's sleep in order to have a hassle free time!😁
